Dr. Rodríguez Medina’s research focuses in Biochemistry in the area of Myosin type II proteins. His work has supervised and mentored 11 Ph.D. students, 2 MS students and two Post-doctoral trainees.

 

Dr. Rodriguez Medina excels as a leader in biomedical research and has served as a committee member on numerous other theses at the UPR-MSC and the Río Piedras Campus. During his 25 year tenure at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus (UPR-MSC), he has accrued extensive administrative experience. Dr. Rodriguez Medina is the Biochemistry Department Chair since 1997; served, as President of the Association of Medical and Graduate Departments of Biochemistry in 2013; and since 2013 is the Program Director of the Puerto Rico IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (PR-INBRE), a project that develops Biomedical Research in the Jurisdiction of Puerto Rico. He also holds leadership roles in other important NIH-sponsored training programs at the UPR, such as the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) and the Puerto Rico Clinical and Translational Research Consortium (PRCTRC), and as internal advisor for the NIGMS-RISE program at UPR-MSC. Moreover, he has a recognized active research program in the field of yeast molecular and cellular biology.
